Indiana has recently seen a tragic reversal of its previously positive news regarding speeding accident rates. The number of crashes and deaths due to speeding has increased by an alarming rate in recent years. This is a trend that has drivers and industry experts worried. As yet, it shows no signs of abating.

The role of speeding in fatal crashes

The part that speeding plays in car accidents has been well attested by safety experts. Speeding increases the likelihood of a crash which can lead to injuries and fatalities. It reduces the amount of time that a driver has to respond to obstacles and other cars on the road. It also lessens the ability of safety structures, such as barriers or guardrails, to prevent a crash.

Speeding is known to have been a major factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities that were recorded in 2020. 11,258 people were killed. This averages out to a total of just over 30 people per day. The number of motor vehicle crashes that were caused by speeding was listed as 10,136. This number is still increasing.

You can pay a heavy price for speeding

Injuries and fatalities caused by speeding can lead to very serious consequences. The number of deaths that have been attributed to speeding has increased by a level of 17% from 2019. Last year saw the highest number of deaths that have been put on record since 2008. Recent figures show that this trend has not been reversed.

Drivers are urged to pay more attention to safety while they are behind the wheel of a car. Authorities all across the U.S. are weighing a new series of measures that may soon take effect. These measures are specially designed to emphasize the need for safe driving behavior.
